What are Negative Ions?

picture of ions with text overlay - What are Negative ions?

Naturally, anyone would think negative ions are bad and positive ions are good. Surprisingly, negatives are the ones we want! They are beneficial, natural particles that have positive effects on our overall well-being.

*This post contains Amazon and other affiliate links. Read the full disclosure here.*

What are they?

Negative ions are molecules or atoms that gain an electrical charge by extra negatively charged electrons. You’ll find them in nature, created as air molecules break apart due to sunlight, radiation, and moving and or water.

How Negative Ions Benefit the Body

In this situation, the negative has positive effects on our bodies. Here are some key ways:

  • increasing the flow of oxygen to the brain.
  • higher alertness and decreased drowsiness
  • protect against germs in the air
  • neutralizing free radicals
  • purifying the blood
  • balancing the autonomic nervous system

Natural Sources Negative Ions

The best way to experience the health benefits is to go where they exist naturally.

Here are ways to find them naturally:

  • waterfalls – the bursting of water droplets releases electrons that ionize oxygen
  • the ocean
  • mountains
  • forests
  • rainy environments
  • water fountains
  • grass

What are Positive Ions

While negative ions provide several health benefits, positive ions are considered to have a negative impact on human health and well-being.

Positive ions or, cations, are atoms or molecules that lost one or more electrons, resulting in a net positive charge.

Free radicals emit positive ions.

Air is naturally ionized with positive and negative ions in natural spaces. In today’s society though, the positive ions create an electrical imbalance in the air and our bodies.

This is because there is a prevalence of positive through various sources:

  • strong winds
  • dust, humidity, and pollution
  • air conditioning systems
  • fluorescent lights
  • cell phones
  • television
  • computers
  • printers
  • copiers
  • toxic carpet or upholstery
  • toxic pain
  • air pollution

For this reason, it’s important to seek out natural sources of negative ions to restore this balance to promote a sense of well-being.

Most of the above-listed sources are electronic devices. Electromagnetic fields are areas of energy associated with the use of electrical power and various forms of natural and man-made lighting.

These EMFs are positive ions.

Here is what excessive exposure can lead to:

  • drowsiness
  • respiratory conditions – asthma, allergies
  • headaches
  • fatigue
  • general discomfort

How to Block Positive Ions

In general, you don’t want to be in closed, polluted environments. As mentioned above, take a walk through the forest or go to the beach.

Exposing yourself to more negative ions can combat the effects.

There are actually methods for safeguarding yourself and your family from the hurtful impacts of electromagnetic fields (EMF).

The EMFDEFENSE Negative Ions Sticker is designed to mitigate the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation. This sticker emits negative ions to combat the positive ones and free radicals.

Just attach the sticker to your device and you’ve created a protective shield around yourself by neutralizing the positive charge in the air.

The primary benefit of the sticker is its ability to protect from the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation.

Crows Are a Higher Intelligence

A crow with a pentacle in it's beak.

Enchanting Animals: Corvidae Family – Crows, Ravens, Jays, Magpies

Crows and the whole Corvid family (songbirds) keep proving to be smarter and smarter. These magical creatures adapted to a human-dominated world and learned a great deal. They’re so smart, their intelligence is compared to a 7-year-old human’s! Prepare to be astonished at the higher intelligence of crows.

*This post contains affiliate links. If guided, read the full disclosure here.*

Bird Brain Power

Due to multiple signs of intelligence, research has proven that crows are one of the smartest birds. For example, they are self-aware and practice self-control. Therefore, they can complete a series of events to solve puzzles.

Certainly, the bird brain insult doesn’t apply to crows! After all, they have their own version of a human cerebral cortex. A study published in science finds that crow brains are neuron-dense. Despite their small size, it’s estimated to be 1.5 billion. This is on par with apes.

Scientist and researchers conduct behavioral test to measure their intelligence.

Moscow State University and University of Iowa collaborated a study. They discovered that crows exhibit behavioral signs of analogical reasoning. We develop this form of cognition around 3 or 4 years old.

Crows have long term memory including facial recognition. They tell the other crows which humans are nice and mean to them.

Crow’s Creativity

Scientist observed crows figuring out casual relationships. For example, a variation of an Aesop’s Fable where a thirsty crow figured out how to raise the water with pebbles.

In this study, six wild crows were able to determine how to obtain floating food rewards. They deposited heavy objects into water-filled tubes and were able to choose objects that sink rather than float! What’s more, they selected tubes with high water levels and solid objects rather than hollow ones.

This demonstrates their preference for the reward with the least amount of work.

It is true that their creativity doesn’t stop there. These aviators are so creative, they know how to fashion and use tools!

Surprising Higher Intelligence

Crows have a super reputation for being clever. Just how clever may surprise you.

Crows have an interesting relationship with wolves. A crow will mimic the call of a wolf to lure it to a carcass too big to pick open. This is why it’s said that crows eat with the wolves.

What’s more, when crows can’t crack open nuts, they drop them at busy intersections. When the light turns red, they safely grab their food! How’s that for clever?!

More facts to illustrate how crows are scary intelligent:

  • they love to play
  • signal to each other
  • fashion tools
  • recognize human faces
  • bring their favorite people gifts
  • trick each other
  • hold grudges
  • talk to each other
  • visit their parents
  • mimic other animals
  • are fair with portions

Surely, this list could go on and on.

Crows are Scary Intelligent

Without doubt, crows are scary intelligent. Their ability to understand analogies is impressive enough. These guys understand basic cause and effect casualties that pre-k children struggle with.

Crows structure strategies for problem solving. This trait is also found in dolphins and chimpanzees.

They imitate sounds, other animals and can be taught to talk! Matter of fact, crows speak their own language.

Remarkedly, they can pick a face out of a crowd and have exceptional knowledge.

Crows & Ravens Are Different

You may be surprised to learn that crows and ravens are two different species. These birds inhabit North America, and subspecies inhabit other parts of the world.

Here are some ways to tell them apart:

  • crows are smaller
  • a raven has a larger, hairy beak
  • you’ll find ravens more in woodland areas
  • crows are louder

Certainly, all amazing facts here apply to both birds.

Crow Magick

The spiritual meaning of a crow is different in many cultures. Of course, superstition associates the crow with death. However, they represent death and rebirth so be sure to use spiritual discernment.

The raven’s call, cras, cras, translates to tomorrow in Latin. So, perhaps this is why they are known as seers of the future.

The Celtics and Native Americans viewed the crow as a symbolism of profound knowledge and intelligence.

They’re also viewed as shapeshifters because they can adapt to different situations.

The Crow symbolism includes mystery, mischief, transformation, fearlessness, and of course, higher intelligence.

Crows are teachers and a sponsor of magick.

Remarkable Intelligence

Although they have a negative place in fiction, certainly, crows are remarkable. I’m grateful to learn about these extraordinary birds and eager to share.

The next time you see a crow, show it the respect it deserves.

With the Highest of Love & Blessings,

Victoria

7 Plants for Intention

Whenever we call on the element of earth, we are calling on the magick of nature. How magical is putting a seed into the earth and having it grow into life? Therefore, if you’re enhancing your spiritual awareness or working on your craft, find the best suited plant to help with your intention. Here’s a list of 7 plants for intention.

*This post contains affiliate links. If guided, read the full disclosure.*

Spiritually Working with Plants

When we work with plants we work with the energy of natural sources. We can go beyond the plant itself and work with land and nature spirits too.

Because they have consciousness, forming a spiritual alliance with a specific plant is best accomplished with a living plant. However, dried plants retain power too but lack conscious intelligence.

To form the strongest bond, grow the plants yourself. Let the plant know what you want from it as you nurture it. Then, they become your partners.

Just like farmers have been doing since the beginning of time, many spiritual people plant herbs and flowers according to the lunar cycle.

Truly enjoy the mindfulness of gardening and experience the joy of nature.

7 Plants for Intention

Ivy

Ivy is linked maternally with protection. For instance, houses covered with ivy are protected by the plant. Keep an ivy plant in your house and the vines capture negativity.

Ivy grows in the shape of the sacred spiral. The twisting vine is linked to fidelity in relationships.

Use ivy to set an intention for protection. Wrap it around a photo of yourself or loved one that you want to protect.

Basil

Also known as the “witch’s herb”.

Basil is sacred in Hinduism and has many connections to health protection, wealth, and luck.

Make an herbal spray with a basil infusion to spray around your sacred space. This will cleanse and raise vibrations.

Ancient connections to witchcraft gives basil so much versatility. Similar to writing intentions on bay leaves and burning them, write on a basil leaf.

Rose

Fun fact – the first roses only had five petals and was shaped like a pentagram.

This old plant has been cultivated over the years to be bigger and more vibrant. Specifically, it’s connected to love and passion.

Use roses to make rose water, oil to anoint candles, or perfume.

It’s common to set an intention for love with roses like using roses in love potions. However, start thinking about the rose’s other characteristics. It curls up tightly and grows thorns to keep us out.

Most don’t know the rose is also the symbol of secrets. Sub rosa, – confidential, only spoken under a veil of secrecy.

From this perspective, use the rose to set intentions to keep something hidden or safe.

Lavender

We fall in love with the properties of lavender because they evoke feelings of relaxation and peace. With its positive vibration, lavender alleviates stress while freshening the atmosphere. As a result, we gain a peaceful sleep.

Wearing lavender will protect you from the evil eye. Hanging lavender near your front door will stop negativity from entering your home.

Use lavender for a multitude of things:

Lavender is so versatile, it can help you set multiple intentions.

There’s really no reason not to grow your own lavender with so many uses and spiritual benefits.

Daisy

He loves me, he loves me not…

Remember playing this game with a daisy? Daisies are associated with young love and innocence. After all, they promote a sunny outlook and happy plans.

In fact, the daisy just looks happy. Therefore its given at happy times or when someone could use some cheering up. Do the same for yourself and add daisies to your self-care ritual.

Set the intention to find joy with fresh daisies. Put a daisy on your altar or in your bedroom and feel the positive energy shift.

Clover

Legend says finding a clover allows you to see hidden nature spirits and faeries. The Celts used a shamrock as a symbol of their knot work. It’s also used to represent the balance of threes: gods, goddesses, and time.

Environmentally, clover is beneficial. It encourages pollination and improves soil.

Although its obvious to use clover for luck, they also help with communication and matters of the mind. Burn dry clover leaves and set the intention as the smoke lingers.

Garlic

Garlic is best thought of as a strong flavor in spaghetti or repelling vampires. However, garlic is used medicinally and adds great benefits to our major organs. Try hanging garlic in your kitchen to encourage healthy cooking.

Ancient Greek and Roman soldiers used garlic for courage. Likewise, eat something garlicy while setting the same intention.

Truly, garlic remains the reigning warding agent. As such, add it to spell bottles or a talisman to ward something or someone off.

Plants to Set an Intention

Ultimately, you can find a plant to support any intention you have.  Observing nature is a powerful learning tool and incredibly calm. Growing and working with plants is very spiritual.

For that reason, take interest in interacting with nature whether or not you have a garden!

Grow Healthy, Eat Healthy, Live Healthy.
